Overview

Everest Panorama Trekking, organized by Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition, is one of the most popular and accessible trekking routes in the Everest region of Nepal. Unlike the longer and more physically demanding Everest Base Camp trek, this panorama trek offers travelers a shorter yet equally breathtaking experience of the high Himalayas. The trek typically spans 7–9 days, starting and ending in Kathmandu, and provides panoramic views of some of the world’s tallest peaks, including Mount Everest (8,848 m), Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku.

The journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,860 m), a small mountain town that serves as the gateway to the Everest region. From Lukla, trekkers walk along the Dudh Koshi River, passing through Phakding, a picturesque village with traditional Sherpa culture, and continue to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m), the largest settlement in the Khumbu region. An acclimatization day at Namche allows trekkers to adjust to higher altitudes and explore the local market, museums, and traditional tea houses. The trek then continues to Tengboche (3,870 m), home to the famous Tengboche Monastery, which offers stunning views of Ama Dablam and the surrounding peaks.

This trek is ideal for first-time trekkers, families, and those with limited time, as it allows participants to experience the majesty of the Himalayas without the extreme physical demands of high-altitude mountaineering. The route also includes comfortable lodges, Himalayan hospitality, and cultural immersion into Sherpa traditions.

  • Duration: 7–9 days
  • Highest point: Namche Bazaar / Everest View Hotel (~3,850 m)
  • Starting point: Kathmandu → Lukla flight
  • Highlights: Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Tengboche Monastery
  • Ideal for: Families, beginners, time-limited travelers

Best Season for Everest Panorama Trekking

The Everest Panorama Trekking is accessible year-round, but the best seasons are pre-monsoon (March–May) and post-monsoon (late September–November). During these periods, the weather is generally stable, skies are clear, and the mountain views are at their most spectacular. The spring season brings blooming rhododendrons along the trekking trail, adding vibrant color to the landscape, while autumn offers crisp air and dry trails, perfect for photography and sightseeing.

Winter (December–February) trekking is also possible, but temperatures drop significantly at night, and some trails may be icy, requiring extra preparation. The monsoon season (June–early September) is less ideal due to heavy rainfall, slippery trails, and limited visibility of the snow-capped peaks. However, trekking during this time can offer a quieter and more secluded experience for those willing to brave the wet conditions.

Weather and altitude can affect trekking itineraries, so Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition emphasizes proper planning, including acclimatization days and monitoring health at high altitudes. The company also provides guidance on clothing, gear, and essentials for the season to ensure trekkers stay safe and comfortable.

Short Points:

  • Best seasons: Spring (March–May), Autumn (Sept–Nov)
  • Winter trekking: Cold, but possible with proper gear
  • Monsoon trekking: Rainy, slippery trails, fewer tourists
  • Highlights in Spring: Rhododendron blooms
  • Highlights in Autumn: Clear skies and vibrant views

Everest Panorama Trekking Difficulty and Transportation

Everest Panorama Trekking is classified as an easy to moderate trek, making it suitable for beginners, older adults, and families. While trekking at high altitudes always carries some risk of acute mountain sickness (AMS), the gradual ascent, acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar, and relatively short trekking hours (3–6 hours per day) make it manageable. The trails are well-trodden and often pass through Sherpa villages, monasteries, and rhododendron forests, providing both cultural and scenic variety.

Transportation begins with a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, widely regarded as one of the most scenic flights in the world. After trekking, the return journey is also via flight, allowing travelers to enjoy views of the Himalayas without retracing every step. Within the trekking route, transportation is entirely on foot, with porters available for hire through Nepal Planet Treks to carry luggage, making the journey more comfortable.

Short Points:

  • Trekking level: Easy to moderate
  • Daily trekking: 3–6 hours
  • Highest altitude: 3,850–3,900 m
  • Main transportation: Flight Kathmandu ↔ Lukla, walking on trail
  • Assistance: Porters available for luggage

Food and Accommodation for Everest Panorama Trekking

During Everest Panorama Trekking, accommodation is primarily in tea houses or lodges along the trail. These lodges are simple but clean, offering basic amenities such as a bed, blankets, and hot showers in some locations. Notably, Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition ensures trekkers are placed in reputable lodges with proper hygiene standards and comfortable dining options.

Food along the trail is a mix of local Nepali dishes and international cuisine. Common offerings include dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), momo (dumplings), noodles, soups, and continental dishes. Hot beverages like tea and coffee are widely available, as are snacks such as energy bars for trekking energy. Nepal Planet Treks recommends staying hydrated and consuming high-energy meals to adapt to altitude changes.

Short Points:

  • Accommodation: Tea houses/lodges along trail
  • Amenities: Bed, blankets, sometimes hot showers
  • Food: Local Nepali and international cuisine
  • Recommended: Eat high-energy meals and hydrate frequently
  • Organized by: Nepal Planet Treks ensures safety and comfort

Everest Panorama Trekking Permits

Trekking in the Everest region requires two essential permits: Sagarmatha National Park Permit and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality (Solu-Khumbu) Permit. These permits are mandatory for all foreign trekkers and are strictly monitored.

The Sagarmatha National Park Permit (SNP) is issued to protect the natural environment and wildlife of the Everest region. The Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit is specific to local administration and helps support village infrastructure. Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition assists with obtaining these permits, ensuring all documentation is processed smoothly before departure, which saves trekkers time and stress. Carrying these permits during the trek is necessary, as local authorities may check at village checkpoints.

Short Points:

  • Mandatory permits: SNP Permit + Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Permit
  • Purpose: Environmental protection and local development
  • Assistance: Nepal Planet Treks handles permit arrangements
  • Carry permits at all times during trek
  • Required for all foreign trekkers

Everest panorama trek with Sanjib Adhikari

We were a group of 5. mix of young and not so young. This is our 2nd time in Nepal. 1st time was during the earthquake in april 2015. We found Sanjib on facebook and we were observing his postings since feb 2018. had some conversation with him and found him suitable for our needs. So fast forward to 18 sept 2018. we arrived at dusty kathmandu. Sanjib took us to the money changers. bought local sim cards for the mountains (Ncell is good) and off we fly to Lukla on the next day. throughout the trek. he always stayed with us. guarding us against the steep valleys below. gave a helping hand to those who cant climb up or down steps. This guy is like a Bull. He can run up trails to assist u at a moment notice. no question asked. He also takes our meals orders in advance so as to prep the teahouse kitchen. (food is slow in the mountains) We felt we were very well taken care of. (Our previous guide during poon hill trek was terrible. ran away at the 1st sign of a earthquake/aftershock. Left a very bitter taste in our mouth) Words cant fully describe the service we got from Sanjib and his porters Raj Sherpa and Om Puri. We had a great time. Things are well arranged. no delays. no hiccups. Always accommodating to our request and flexible in arrangements on the trails. We will be back again soon. No need to look for another guide next time.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

The Everest Panorama Trekking offered by Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition is a scenic and moderate trek that provides spectacular views of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. Unlike the full Everest Base Camp trek, this route is shorter and focuses on panoramic viewpoints and cultural experiences in Sherpa villages. It is suitable for trekkers with moderate fitness who want to enjoy Himalayan beauty without the physical demands of high-altitude mountaineering.

Prior trekking experience is helpful but not strictly necessary. The Everest Panorama Trekking route is moderate in difficulty and designed for travelers with a reasonable level of fitness. Daily walks range between 3–6 hours, mostly on well-trodden trails, with gradual ascents and descents. However, trekkers should be comfortable walking for several hours a day at higher altitudes. Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition recommends training through cardio, walking, or stair climbing before the trip to make your trek safer and more enjoyable.

The Everest Panorama Trek is considered moderate in difficulty. While most days involve 3–6 hours of trekking on hilly terrain, there are some steep ascents, particularly approaching Namche Bazaar and Tengboche. Altitude can affect energy levels, so proper acclimatization days, like at Namche Bazaar, are included. Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition provides experienced guides who monitor trekkers’ health and pace the group accordingly. Overall, a moderate level of fitness and preparation will allow most healthy adults to complete this trek safely.

Yes, Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition offers flexible itineraries to accommodate your preferences, fitness level, and time constraints. You can extend the trek to visit additional viewpoints, explore Gokyo Lake, or combine it with cultural tours in Kathmandu or nearby regions. Our team works closely with you to plan extra acclimatization days, sightseeing, or special activities while maintaining safety and comfort. Customization allows you to create a memorable Himalayan experience tailored to your needs.

Weather & Seasons

The best seasons to undertake the Everest Panorama Trek are during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). In spring, rhododendrons bloom and the weather is mild, while autumn offers clear skies and stable weather, providing excellent mountain views. Winter is colder and snow can block trails, while the monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rainfall, slippery paths, and limited visibility. Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition can help you select dates that maximize views and safety.

Accommodation and Food

During the Everest Panorama Trek, accommodation is primarily in tea houses or lodges, which are basic but comfortable, offering clean rooms with beds, blankets, and sometimes private bathrooms. Hot showers are available at many stops, though sometimes at an extra cost. In larger villages like Namche Bazaar and Tengboche, facilities are slightly better with dining rooms and Wi-Fi access. Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition ensures that your lodgings are safe, clean, and conveniently located to maximize comfort throughout your trek.

Meals during the trek are mostly served in tea houses and lodges, offering a variety of local Nepali cuisine, including dal bhat (rice with lentils and vegetables), momo (dumplings), noodles, and soups. Breakfast usually includes porridge, eggs, or bread with tea or coffee. While options in smaller villages may be limited, larger stops like Namche Bazaar offer more variety, including continental meals. Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition ensures that nutritious, safe, and adequate meals are provided throughout the trek to keep your energy levels high.

Guides, Support & Safety

Mobile and internet connectivity along the Everest Panorama Trek is limited but available in some major villages like Namche Bazaar and Tengboche. The signal may be weak or intermittent in remote areas. Wi-Fi is often available in tea houses for a small fee. Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition recommends not relying heavily on connectivity and encourages trekkers to enjoy the natural environment and disconnect from digital distractions. Satellite phones are available with guides for emergencies.

Yes, the Everest Panorama Trekking route is generally safe. However, trekking in the Himalayas comes with inherent risks such as altitude sickness, weather changes, and slippery trails. Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition prioritizes safety by providing experienced guides, proper acclimatization schedules, and support from porters. We carry first aid kits, oxygen tanks, and have emergency evacuation plans. Following the guide’s instructions and being aware of your body’s limits ensures a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.

Trek Preparation and Equipment

Packing the right gear is essential. Key items include warm clothing, trekking boots, layered clothing for varying temperatures, rain gear, gloves, hat, trekking poles, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a water bottle. A small daypack is recommended for daily essentials, while Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition handles porter services for larger luggage. Personal medications, a basic first aid kit, and a camera are also advised. Packing efficiently and according to our guidelines ensures comfort and safety throughout the trek.
