Best Season for Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek

Choosing the right season is essential for an enjoyable Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek. The best seasons are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when the weather is stable and mountain views are crystal clear. During these months, temperatures are moderate, trails are dry, and visibility is at its best.

Spring is especially beautiful due to blooming rhododendron forests that paint the hillsides in red, pink, and white. Wildlife sightings are also more common during this time. Autumn, on the other hand, offers crisp air, vibrant landscapes, and excellent trekking conditions after the monsoon season. Festivals like Dashain and Tihar add cultural richness to the journey.

Winter trekking is possible but colder, particularly at higher altitudes, while the monsoon season brings rain and leeches, making trails slippery. Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition carefully plans departures during optimal seasons for safety and comfort.

Best Time Summary:

  • Spring: Clear views, flowers in bloom
  • Autumn: Stable weather, best visibility
  • Winter: Fewer crowds, cold temperatures
  • Monsoon: Not recommended due to rain

Food and Accommodation for Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek

Accommodation during the trek is mainly in comfortable tea houses, which provide basic yet cozy rooms with twin beds, blankets, and shared bathrooms. At lower elevations, facilities are more developed, while higher up, accommodation becomes simpler due to remoteness.

Meals are freshly prepared and nutritious, focusing on energy-rich foods such as Dal Bhat, noodles, soups, rice, potatoes, and Tibetan bread. Vegetarian options are widely available and recommended at higher altitudes. Hot drinks like ginger tea and lemon honey are popular and helpful for acclimatization.

Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition carefully selects lodges known for cleanliness, good food, and warm hospitality.

Food & Stay Highlights:

  • Hygienic tea house accommodation
  • Local and international meal options
  • Freshly cooked, energy-rich food
  • Warm dining areas in cold regions

Trip Itinerary

Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, a friendly representative from Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition will be waiting to greet you and assist with your transfer to the hotel in Kathmandu. After reaching the hotel, you will check into your room, freshen up, and take some time to rest after your journey. Once you feel relaxed, we will escort you to our office for a detailed briefing about the Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek, including safety guidelines, route information, and equipment checks. Later, we will enjoy a short guided walk around the nearby tourist area, giving you a first glimpse of Kathmandu’s vibrant atmosphere. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

After an early breakfast, we will transfer you to the domestic airport for a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara, offering breathtaking aerial views of rivers, hills, and Himalayan ranges. Upon landing in Pokhara, we continue with a drive to Nayapul, which takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes by car or jeep. From Nayapul, your trek officially begins. The trail gently ascends through lush landscapes, passing small settlements and terraced farmland as we walk uphill toward Kimche village. Continuing on, we reach the beautiful Gurung village of Ghandruk. This approximately five-hour trek rewards you with stunning mountain views and rich local culture. Overnight stay in Ghandruk Village.

After enjoying breakfast in the peaceful setting of Ghandruk Village, we begin our trek with a gradual uphill walk toward Ghandruk Hill at about 2,010 meters, the last permanent settlement in this section of the valley. The trail then descends steeply via stone steps to the Kimrong Khola, where you can enjoy the soothing sounds of the river. Crossing the river, we ascend again through terraced fields and forests to reach the vibrant village of Chhomrong. After a short rest and refreshment break, we continue trekking past Chhomrong, following the trail along the Sinuwa ridge. The day’s walk combines ascents and descents through beautiful scenery. Overnight stay at a lodge in Sinuwa.

Leaving Sinuwa after breakfast, the trail initially follows a relatively smooth and gentle path through dense bamboo groves and thick rhododendron forests. As we move deeper into the Annapurna Sanctuary, the surroundings become more alpine and serene. The route passes through Khuldighar, once a check post area, before descending along long and steep stone staircases into lush bamboo and rhododendron jungles. From here, the trail climbs steadily toward Deurali Danda, with occasional glimpses of towering cliffs and waterfalls. The air becomes cooler as altitude increases, making acclimatization important. This scenic and peaceful day ends with an overnight stay at Deurali Danda.

Today is the highlight of the trek as we make our way to the legendary Annapurna Base Camp. Starting early in the morning is recommended to enjoy clear mountain views before clouds roll in. The trail gradually ascends, passing through Machhapuchhre Base Camp before continuing toward Annapurna Base Camp. If snow is present, the trail may be more challenging, but our experienced guides from Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition will ensure your safety. After 3 to 4 hours of walking, we reach Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters. The reward is a spectacular 360-degree panorama of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, and surrounding peaks. Overnight at Annapurna Base Camp.

Early in the morning, we wake up to an unforgettable sunrise over the snow-covered Himalayan giants from Annapurna Base Camp. After breakfast, we begin our descent, retracing our steps past Machhapuchhre Base Camp and Deurali. The trail continues downhill through bamboo forests and rocky paths to Sinuwa. From here, we descend steep stone staircases to reach Upper Chhomrong. Although the walk is mostly downhill, it can be demanding on the knees, so a steady pace is maintained. The day offers changing landscapes and warmer temperatures as we lose altitude. Overnight stay in a comfortable lodge at Chhomrong Village.

After breakfast, we leave Chhomrong and descend toward New Bridge, crossing suspension bridges and passing through charming villages like Kyumi and Syauli Bazaar. The trail continues downhill through forests and terraced fields until we reach Birethanti. From here, we walk for approximately four more hours to arrive at Nayapul, marking the end of our trek. A vehicle will be waiting to drive us back to Pokhara, where you can enjoy a short break. Later the same day, we transfer to the airport for a flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel and overnight stay in Kathmandu.

Every great journey must eventually come to an end, and today marks the conclusion of your Annapurna Base Camp adventure with Nepal Planet Treks & Expedition. After breakfast at your hotel, you will have some free time to return any rented trekking equipment, shop for souvenirs, or simply relax and reflect on your unforgettable Himalayan experience. At the appropriate time, our team will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight. As you depart Nepal, we hope you carry lasting memories of stunning mountains, warm hospitality, and a truly rewarding trekking experience. We wish you a safe journey and hope to welcome you again for another adventure in Nepal.
