We begin this amazing Upper Mustang trek after a one day guided sightseeing of some of Kathmandu’s
famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites. afterward, we take a scenic drive to Pokhara. This incredible
town laying just at the banks of Phewa Lake is one of Nepal’s most beautiful places to visit. Then a short
flight takes us to Jomsom, our starting point of the Upper Mustang trekking trail. We start this amazing
trek in Nepal by following the Kaligandaki River up to Kagbeni village. This iconic small town is famed for
its many apple orchards and apple wine.

The journey of the Upper Mustang trek continues along the banks of the Kaligandaki towards Tsehile, Shyangmochen, Tsrang and ultimately the highlight of the upper Mustang trek the stoned walled village of Lo Manthang. In order to get here, we do need to cross some mountain passes and trek to barren landscapes resembling the Wild West. Every village is located near a water source and on a patch of green.     Traveler’s note: The first thing you notice when arriving in Jomsom is the mighty Nilgiri Mountain resting just
    next to the airport. Did you know that Jomsom and Kagbeni are the apple towns of Nepal and are famed across
    the country for their apple wines and products! From Kagbeni you can also head further inwards to reach the
    famous Muktinath Temple.

  •  Pass the villages of Tangbe and Chuksang
  •  Cross the river and climb up steeply to reach Tsehile

Traveling Note: From Kagbeni, we go on walking toward Tsehile in the morning today. The path moves next to the bank of Kaligandaki. We move toward the villages of Tangbe and also Chunksang. And, prior to moving at Tsehile, we have to traverse a bridge over Kaligandaki and climb steeply up for approximately 35 minutes to get to Tsehile Village. Overnight at Tsehile.

  •  Head by various villages Samar, Bhona and Yemdo

    Traveler’s note: Did you know that today we cross the mountain passes of; Taklam La (3240m), Yemdo La(4000m) and Dzong La (3550m).
  • We go away from Tshehile, we will start our journey to Shyangmochen today. We come crossways through passes like- Taklam La (3240m), Yemdo pass (4000m) and Baga La, Dzong La (3550m). You will be passing by striking communities of Samar, Bhona as well as Yemdo villages. Then we get there at Shyangmochen. Overnight in Shyangmochen.

  •  Ghemi La (3520m)
  •  Shyangmochen La (3850m)
  •  Nya La (4050m)
  •  Tsarang La (3920m)
  •  Follow the trail passed various Chhortens and stupas
  •  Enter the big Chhorten gate of Tsrang
  •  Dinner and overnight stay at the guesthouse
    Traveler’s note: Did you know that Tsrang is one of the bigger villages of the region and houses about 50families! The incredible Tsrang Monastery is just located on top of a hill near the village.

  •  A good half-day of trekking through sandy and rocky trails

  •  Continue on we reach the capital of the Mustang region Lo Manthang

Traveling note: On this day, we depart from Tsarang to Lo-Mangthang, the capital area of Mustang. The wall we can see here which is 300m long and 150m broad has secluded against warriors, robbers, and the cruel winds. The small region of Lo-Mangthang is occupied by more than a thousand population whose houses are associated with fine stone lanes. Overnight in Lomanthang.

    Traveler’s note: Did you know that the stoned wall of Lo Manthang has protected the town for more than a centuries against robbers, armies and the strong winds! Around mid-May, a great festival called Tiji is held here.

  •  Leaving Lo Manthang behind a good half-day of trekking takes us back

Traveling note: We go back over our steps from the magnificently walled city, Lomanthang. We will come down from Lomanthang which is actually trouble-free than climbing upward.

  •  Cross the passes again in reverse
  •  Head back to Shyangmochen
  •  Dinner and overnight stay at the guesthouse

Traveling Note: Today you will be walking through a large ravine and an extra valley packed with the trees of juniper. After that, you will come across the river nearby. Also, you will go by along the edge to Shyangmochen, a small inhabited with only some local facilities. On this day, we will go back over from Tsrang to reach Shyangmochen. Overnight in Syangboche.

 

  • Breakfast and departure
  • Start to make your way back to Tsehil
  •  After crossing the Kaligandaki River follow the banks up to Chuks
  •  Dinner and overnight stay at the guesthouse
  • Traveling Note: From Syamboche, our way down ranges from 290m to 1100m. We will trek for about 6 to 7 hours and make way back to Chuksang and constantly move trek down to arrive at Chuksang. There is a long drop on this day. Overnight at Chuksang.
  •  Breakfast and departure
  •  Make your way back along the Kaligandaki River towards Kagbeni
  •  The trail is the same way but as we walk backward the views change
  •  Dinner and overnight stay at the local guesthouse
  •  Traveling Note: Today, moving ahead from Chuksang, our trail descends down the vale turning it to be swift. We discontinue at Kagbeni for lunch and stay for the night in Kagbeni.

  •  Follow along the river all the way straight
  •  Dinner and overnight stay at the local guesthouse

 Traveling note: The flights to Pokhara takes off in the morning only as the strong wind blows in the daytime which makes the flights difficult to operate, so we have to get ready early and arrange for the trip to Pokhara. Physical Condition & Experience Requirements
