There is nothing quite like watching an incredible sunrise over the Annapurna Mountains. From the famous Poon Hill, you will observe the effulgent sun rise majestically over the snowcapped peaks. This is just one morning on the incredible Ghorepani/Poon Hill Trek in the Annapurna Mountains of Nepal.

The Ghorepani/Poon Hill Trek is a moderately easy trek that gives you all of the advantages of trekking in the beautiful Annapurna range while not having to do the high elevations. You see great views of the snowcapped peaks. There are wonderfully quaint Gurung and Magar villages to explore. See great flora and fauna including migratory birds from Siberia that fly over this region twice a year.

Ghorepani has been known for centuries to traders traveling to Tibet. They would stop here for the night. The name literally means “horse water”, as they could stop and refresh their horses with the fresh, cold water that flows through this village.

The trek takes a total of six days, with time to enjoy some sightseeing in Pokhara, the picturesque lakeside city in the very heart of the Himalayas.

The Ghorepani/Poon Hill Trek is an insightful way to learn of the unique mountain culture of the Annapurna Region. There are plenty of things to see and do along the way. Visit the Gurung Museum at Ghandrung, plus encounter villages belonging to the Magar people.

The adventure begins in the sub-tropical jungles near Pokhara and steadily climbs upwards to enjoy delightful mountain vistas.

Total time for this trip is just 10 days, which includes arrival in Kathmandu, travel to Pokhara by luxury, first class bus and return to Kathmandu. It is a fairly easy trek with few challenges. And the morning sunrise over the Annapurnas from Poon Hill is an experience of a lifetime.

Client's Review

Poon Hill trekking Annapurna

Bryan Smith , 2017

Trek to Poon Hill is definitely a good and absolutely amazing trip in Nepal! We had always wanted to do this trip but weren't knowledgeable at all about the process. Just a quick email to Nepal planet treks and the trip was booked, everything taken care of for us begging till end of the treks. Poon Hill trekking is so common to the travelers that stone stages are well developed; guesthouses and citizen houses form villages at several places over the hill, just like everyday checkpoints for the trekkers.
Still, hiring a tour guide is a good choice; he can sometimes share some baggage load, assure for the right route and guarantee the safety of the whole group.
The views were amazing from poon hill and Raj could answer any questions we had. I highly recommend Nepal planet treks in Nepal and if you do use them ask for Raj!
